Awarding an 8(a) Direct Award Contract to Antean Technology: A Streamlined Six-Step Guide

The Small Business Administration (SBA) 8(a) business development program enables Federal Government agencies to contract directly with certified 8(a) contractors. This method offers a swift, cost-effective, and value-driven contracting process.  

Antean Technology LLC is a certified SBA 8(a) program participant through May 21, 2030 and can accept direct award 8(a) contracts up to $4.5 million.

Benefits of 8(a) Direct Awards

Through the 8(a) direct award (also referred to as sole source) process, agencies have a simplified and shortened acquisition procedure that offers the following benefits:  

  1. Reduced Decision Cycle: the time required to award an 8(a) sole source contract is usually within weeks.  
  2. Lowered Administrative Costs: procurement process and time is reduced to a minimum.  
  3. Best Value Pricing: agencies negotiate with the firm directly to get the best value.  
  4. Best Value Services: agencies can evaluate the capability and qualifications of an 8(a) firm before making the award.  
  5. Supports Small Business Goals: credit for promoting small business participation within the agency.  
  6. Flexible Initiation: a contract can be initiated with a simple high-level statement of work.

Eligibility Criteria for Contract Award to Antean Technology: 

  • It is determined that Antean Technology is capable and responsible for performing the work. 
  • The resulting contract can be awarded at a fair market price. 
  • The order has an estimated value less than or equal to $7 million for acquisitions assigned manufacturing NAICS codes and $4.5 million for all other acquisitions.

Six Simplified Steps: 

  1. Identify Requirements 
    Engage with Antean Technology to define the project scope, price estimates, timeline, and technical requirements. 
  2. Decision to Sole Source
     Government program manager or interested party chooses Antean Technology to perform the work and submits a procurement request to the agency Contracting Officer. This request includes the requirements description, estimated period of performance, applicable NAICS code, anticipated dollar value, etc. 
  3. SBA Offer Letter
    The Contracting Officer sends an Offer Letter to the SBA’s Fresno District Office: [email protected], seeking permission for direct award negotiations with Antean Technology. SBA Business Opportunity Specialist: Mr. Thomas Scheu, (559) 500-1774, [email protected] 
  4. SBA Review and Approval
    SBA confirms the eligibility of Antean Technology and authorizes negotiations. The Contracting Officer then submits the Statement of Work and Request for Quotation to Antean Technology.
  5. Contract Negotiations
    Evaluate Antean Technology’s quotation and/or proposal, and if needed, enter negotiations to finalize terms.
  6. Finalize Contract Award
    The Contracting Officer prepares and forwards the contract award document to Antean Technology for signature. Upon receiving the signed contract, it’s finalized with the Contracting Officer’s signature and submitted to the SBA.
